- Question - Who was the Packer's First Coach (1919 town team)?
- Technically, Bill Ryan was the first coach, but this is deceptive. In
the early days of football, the coach on the sidelines did not run the team; the captain
on the field ran the team. On the 1919 team, Curly Lambeau was the captain, the man in
charge. If "coach" is defined as the man in charge, then Curly Lambeau was the
coach.
- Can you tell me who the pack were playing and what the final score
was on Dec. 7, 1941? Thank you, Legacy X
- The Green Bay Packers did not play on December 7, 1941. Their regular
season ended the previous week. The Chicago Bears did play on that day, and they beat the
Cardinals on that day at Cominsky Park - 34 to 24 to setup a playoff game between Green
Bay and Chicago.
- Why, if last season was the first division title in 20 years, is
Green Bay known as title town????????? - Michael Harris
- Green Bay has won 11 NFL titles, more than any other team in NFL
history.
- johnny blood - what years did he play for the packers. what was his
best season. how big was he. - Nat Pope
- Johnny "Blood" McNalley played for the Packers from 1928 to
1936. Some say his best year was 1931. I will have to do some research on how big he was
and post it here later.
- "The story goes that McNally and a friend had a desire to play
football but for 'greenbacks' instead of collegiate rah-rah, but because they were
underclassman, they were inelegible for the pros. As they were passing a movie house one
day, McNally looked up and saw that the marquee read: Blood and Sand. An idea took
hold in McNally's vivid imagination, and he turned to his pal and said, "I've got it,
We'll use false names. I'll be Blood, and you can be Sand." Soon after, Johnny Blood
went pro....As for Sand, he sort of melted into the scenery and never made a name for
himself." - From The History of the Packers - The Lambeau Years Part I
- It is my understanding that Carlos Brown was a backup quarterback.
But what year or what years was he a backup quarterback? And who was the starting
quarterback? I think he used an alias. Is this true, and if it is true, then what was his
real name? Was it Alan Autry? Or was his name Carlos Brown and Alan Autry was the alias? -
James W. Wintermute
- I'm sure by now you have gotten plenty of responses on Carlos Brown aka
Alan Autry but if not maybe this will help. Carlos Brown and Alan Autry are one in the
same. Alan Autry (C. Brown) can be seen in "In the Heat of the Night" and
"Grace Under Fire" not to mention various other televison shows and movies. Hope
this helps. I am looking for pictures of him as a Packer if you have any knowledge of
where I can find some I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks! - kscoggin@iamerica.net
- Here you go. Thanks to Timothy D. Losser. See Alan
Autry card
- I have a question that isn't really related.....I caught a glimpse of
a video by Vince Lombardi called "Second Effort". Any idea where I can get a
copy of this? - Jim Sullivan
- I'm not sure, but you could try John at The Packer Shop, 712 Redwood
Dr., Green Bay, WI - 414-490-1905. I believe he also has a web site, and I will post it
when I get the URL.
- Can you tell me about the history of the Packers stadiums? When did
they play at Lambeau, when at Milwaukee? And when did they expand their seating capacity
from ~56,000 to 59000+? - John C. Key
- The Packers first home playing field was Hagemeister Park, which was
located next to the Hagemeister Brewery. When the Packers outgrew this field they moved to
Bellevue Park baseball stadium in 1923 and 1924. The first City Stadium was built next to
Joannes Park in 1925. The builders started off by constructing 288 box seats, then added
open grandstands on both sides of the field with lower bleachers at the ends of these. The
total seating capacity that first year was right around 5,000. Lambeau field, completed
just in time for the 1957 season opener, originally had a capacity of 32,000. The capacity
increased from ~56,000 to ~59,000 in 1984 when they added an extra row of seats at the top
of the stadium. Current capacity is now around 61,000, give or take. The Packers played
their first game in Milwaukee against the New York Giants on October 1, 1933. They played
in Milwaukee until 1994.
- What rookie Packer quarterback holds the Packer record for most
passes attempted in a season and what year was it? Dale Zander
- Tobin Rote attempted 224 passes in his rookie season in 1950. He also
holds the rookie record for the most passes completed at 83.
- My daughter is doing Packer trivia at her school and me being the
foremost Packer fan she knows asked me this question. Since Super Bowl 1 three Packers
have been voted Most Valueable Player (league). Who are they? Bret Favre last year is one,
I believe Bart Starr was voted for #2,who is #3? I need the answer by Thursday 9-26-96 if
that is possible. - thank you signed a desperate dad.
- The Packers have had 4 NFL MVP's, Paul Hornung in 1961, Jim Taylor in
1962, Bart Starr in 1966, and Brett Favre in 1995.
- The 1961 Packer roster lists Ben Davidson as DE. Was this the same
Ben Davidson that played for so many years at Oakland. I can't imagine at 6' 8" there
were two Ben Davidsons. - Emmysdad@aol.com
- Yes, this was the same Ben Davidson who played for the Packers for one
year, although the list I have shows him listed as a tackle.
